Do a lot of people think about suicide?
When I saw the topics I immediately realized that I am going to take the topic of suicide. It is no secret that Lithuania is in the highest place in terms of suicide rate. And I guarantee that each of us has been thinking about it for sometime. The hardest thing to notice is people who usually only give positive energy because others think that they do not even have ideas about commiting suicide if they are just smiling and satisfied with everything. But reality is a bit different. Such people tend to be depressed and it ultimately leads to suicide. Some try to find hope and some people just struggle alone, some start to reach help from parents or even a psychologist. The most important thing is that they are struggling. Such people really deserve respect simply because they do not give up. But those who choose to end their lifes are not weak. Just their mental illness was not detected on time and the help was not received.
I did this research using one of the most popular social site - Instagram. I shared a post asking users to answer a few questions about people who wanted to commit suicide. In fact, I did not even expect people to admit and answer these few questions. I want to thank them very much for the courage. The hardest part was to answer these questions. Some even cried. And the hardest thing was when I got written letter by my best friend. Then I wondered how I did not notice it? In fact, it's very hard to see a person wanting to end their life. And I know what I understood that we were trying to make everyone ideal and not deceiving other people. We see more minuses than pluses in ourselves. Maybe we should start loving ourselves and except who we really are, and do not try to be the best everywhere. The people I'm going to tell about now will have different names.
The first person is Liza and she wanted to end her life because of bullying and low self-esteem. When she was asked what motivates her to move forward she replied that friends she cares about. However, when I asked her if she spoke about this problem with her relatives, she denied it and told that she talked only with a psychologist and several close friends.
The second person is Michael, and he wanted to leave his life because even in the store he could not stand without a breakdown. These events were greatly influenced by depression. This person was motivated by travelling and lot of activities. They made him think less about the idea of suicide. Also his parents are aware of this illness.
The other three people who were interviewed answered similarly. They began to think of suicide because of pressure from people around them because they expected more than they can do. They are motivated to move forward by their best friends who support and sympathize at the hardest moments. They did not share this mental illness with other people, but simply decided that they were able to fight for themselves.
All people were also asked if they liked to be alone or surrounded by people. Most responded similarly that they sometimes tend to be alone and sometimes surrounded by a lot of people. Only two people prefer loneliness over big gatherings. The last question was: "Is it possible to stop the number of suicides? How?''. Everyone claimed that it is possible to stop the number of suicides. Most people think that there is a need for good psychologists, just in Lithuania there is a small number of them also we need to stop alcoholism, which usually leads to suicide.
I think people should not be afraid of word suicide. If we see or suspect that a person is considering the possibility of committing suicide, we must talk to him and even tell their relatives. Also, the public should get rid of the opinions that suicide is merely a formulation, and thus the person only seeks attention. Most people think that all who go to psychologists are "incomplete mind","weak" or "crazy" . We absolutely have to deny this because people who choose to go to psychologists are strong and understand that they have a problem that needs to be cured.
So we can conclude that there is a lot of people thinking about suicide in our society. But we should not be disappointed with them and not say that this is just a lack of attention. Let's save each other and make a world a better and happier place for us all.
